Levels Explained

Helping you to understand which course level is right for you

GCSEs at City College

Do you still need at least a grade 4 or above in English or maths to meet your goal?

Don't worry… City College has clear learning pathways to help you achieve this at the same time as you study your full-time course here.

If you have at least five GCSEs at grade 9-4 (including English and maths) then you do not have to re-sit your GCSE in maths and English.

If you have GCSEs at grade 3 in maths and English then you will undertake GCSE re-sits in maths and English.

If you have GCSE grades 1-2 then you will undertake functional skills at either level 1 or level 2, depending on your need. Once you have completed and passed functional skills at level 2 you will have the opportunity to go on and re-sit your GCSE.

These re-sits in GCSEs and functional skills provision will run alongside your main vocational course and fit into your timetable to ensure the maximum success for your learning outcomes.
