Information for Schools

Information for Schools

City College values its strong relationship with schools across Southampton and Hampshire and is fully committed to offering a variety of engaging opportunities for students, careers advisors and teachers to learn more about City College and their options for further study, including career-led courses and apprenticeships.

We offer a wide range of practical taster activities, career workshops, assembly presentations, talks and college tours which can be tailored to suit particular subject areas or year groups if required. You can arrange to come to us or we can visit your school. We also welcome any thoughts or suggestions that you may have.

Applying to City College

Course applications can be made online via our website (this is the easiest and most secure method), alternatively you can request a paper application form by emailing: admissions@southampton-city.ac.uk

Application deadline: Course applications should be made by the end of March. Late applications will be considered but the course offered will depend on availability. The earlier a student applies and attends their interview, the better the chance of them securing a place on their preferred course.

Open Events

To find out what City College has to offer your students, please encourage them to attend one of our Open Events. This will give them the opportunity to look around our first-class facilities, talk to our industry expert teachers, meet current students, and find out about the expert support that is available – from additional learning support to financial help.

Next open event: Saturday 17th June 2023, 10am - 12pm

Year 10 Taster Days

Our Taster Days are designed to enable Year 10 students to experience two subject areas of interest, which is particularly beneficial for subjects that are not studied at school. It will also help support them with their post-16 college and career options.

  • Monday 10th July 2023
  • Tuesday 11th July 2023

If your school would like to send a group of Year 10 students to one of our Taster Days, please email our Admissions Team admissions@southampton-city.ac.uk and we will do our utmost to accommodate you.  Individual Year 10 students from your school are also welcome as long as they have your written permission.

Transition Support Sessions (vulnerable students)

If you have any extremely vulnerable Year 11 students, either with an EHCP or a high level of pastoral or learning support need, that would benefit from some additional support in their transition from school to college, please let us know.

Please email admissions@southampton-city.ac.uk with names of any vulnerable students that you would like us to contact to arrange a support session for during the Spring or Summer term.

14-16 Education (KS4) - School Group Provision

We offer qualifications across a range of subject areas for groups of Year 10 or Year 11 learners, delivered over 1 or 2 years.  A school group of up to 16 learners will typically attend for one morning or afternoon per week, and would be accompanied by a member of your school staff.
