About this course
The City College Young Chefs' Academy is designed to give students, from years 10 - 11, the first taste of working in a professional kitchen and within the hospitality and catering industry.
The aim of the course is to excite, develop and nurture young talent over a period of 6 weeks.

What you will learn
Students will develop confidence and social skills, be empowered to cook and eat healthily and be provided with impartial career advice.
During the course, we will cover the following:
- Week 1 – Induction, knife safety, food safety & kitchen hazards
- Week 2 – Bread/dough
- Week 3 – Vegetable and fresh pasta
- Week 4 – Preparation of poultry
- Week 5 – Desserts
- Week 6 – Restaurant service/Graduation event
All of the learning is completed through practical sessions in the college’s modern industry-standard kitchen facility. The classes are instructive while in a relaxed atmosphere.
Our modern commercial kitchens and commercial fine dining Aspire restaurant will provide you with the perfect place to learn and gain real hospitality and catering experience.
The only entry requirements for this course a love of cooking and being in Year 10 or Year 11 at school.
