Our Level 1 Certificate in Introduction to Culinary Skills is an ideal starting point for any aspiring chefs of the future. This part-time course gives you the opportunity to gain a professional qualification in order to start your career in the catering industry.

Working in our new state of the art training kitchens, this course will give you the skills and techniques needed to progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Culinary Skills (Professional Cookery) as well as preparing you to be able to work in a range of establishments within the hospitality and catering industry.

* Great news... if you're aged 19 or over and unemployed or learning less than £20,319 a year (gross salary), you may not have to pay for this course. Apply online now!

A range of cookery methods including baking, roasting, steaming, boiling, braising, stewing and frying, and food safety knowledge.

Our modern commercial kitchens will provide you with the perfect place to learn your trade in this industry.

Short answer questions and practical cookery exam.

You will need a basic understanding of numeracy and, at the required interview, you will need to pass a literacy assessment at level 1 or above.

  • Level 2 Diploma in Professional Cookery
  • Level 2 Patisserie & Confectionary
  • Apprenticeship in Hospitality & Catering
  • Work in the hospitality and catering industry

You will need catering equipment including full chef’s whites, a set of knives, and safety shoes costing approximately £200.

All ingredients for the course are provided by the college.
