This year’s City College Construction competition for Industry Week has, once again, produced a high standard of work and highlighted to our students the importance of communication and working effectively as a team from across the different trades – as they would when working on a real construction project.

Selected students from across the trades (brickwork, carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, electrical, and heating and ventilation) worked together as teams to design and build a structure, to a specific brief, within a set timeframe in the college’s hub. Design, innovation and the quality of work was officially judged throughout the four-day competition by Barry from Crest Nicholson. It proved a particularly tough job for him as he commented "the standard was extremely high this year".

Results of this year's construction competition were announced on Thursday 21 April by Director for Learning (Construction & Engineering), Rob Motherwell, with certificates and prizes presented by the Principal, Sarah Stannard.

Individual student winners:

  • Tom Drew - Brickwork
  • Connor O'Brien - Painting & Decorating
  • Jack Cavill - Electrical
  • Laura Morris - Heating & Ventilation
  • Aiden Collins - Carpentry & Joinery

Winning team:

Team 2 "The Knight" took the trophy for the overall winning structure. The winning team consisted of students: Jamie Griffiths, Ryan Mauger, Matiss Kinens, Nathan Warchol, Michael Keogh, Harkrishan Kasba and Eliaz Khosty.

Well done to everyone that participated.

This annual competition couldn't continue without the valuable support of our sponsors which provided the fantastic prizes and donated materials.
