City College Southampton is the city’s only General Further Education College.  Our mission is to provide excellent career-led learning which prepares our students to succeed at work and in life.  Every year, we educate and train over 5,000 people in general and technical subjects and courses.  We welcome 16 to 18 year olds, Apprentices and Adult Students and work closely with major employers across the area. 

We currently have an opportunity for new volunteers to join us as Board Members (Governors).

Our College Governing Body is made up of individuals who operate in a similar way to non-executive directors and trustees on a charitable company board.  Our Board is responsible for determining the educational character and mission of the College, overseeing its activities, ensuring financial health and safeguarding its assets.  We’re keen that the Board reflects the diversity of Southampton and our students.

Could your insight and ideas contribute to our Governing Body?  You may have high-level professional experience in business, public sector, charity or social work, finance, education, or other relevant leadership and strategic skills.  Most importantly, you’ll be committed to improving the quality of the service which we provide to our students.

This voluntary role brings personal and professional rewards – offering you the opportunity to make a contribution to the community, to shape the College’s role in working with individuals and employers and to develop new skills in this strategic role.
