Assistant Accountant

37 hours per week • Salary: £22,000 - £25,000 Depending on experience

We are currently seeking to appoint an Assistant Accountant to join the Finance Team of Southampton City College, reporting directly to the Finance Manager. The role offers a wide range of responsibilities and the potential for further development for the right candidate.    

Key responsibilities will include:

- assisting with month end routines and the preparation of monthly financial accounts
- reconciliation of nominal accounts
- bank reconciliations and treasury management tasks
- maintaining the general ledger including the fixed asset register
 

You will have good numerical skills and a thorough understanding of double entry accounting, trial balance and account reconciliations. You will ideally be AAT qualified or a part qualified (CCAB) accountant with experience of working in an education based finance environment although this is not essential.

You will be required to have excellent understanding of Microsoft Excel and a good working knowledge of other accounting software products. Agresso software experience is desirable.

You will be highly personable, have excellent communications skills and the confidence to work successfully as part of a team. You will also be highly organised, self-motivated and have the ability to work to tight deadlines as this is essential to the role.
