Wage:

£15,130.20 per annum

Monday to Thursday: 8am - 4:30pm

Friday: 8am - 1pm

35 hours per week.
 

Vacancy Description

This is a great opportunity to develop skills and knowledge carrying out inspection, repair, maintenance and refurbishment of mechanical building services equipment and installations in a University environment. We have a strong culture of training staff. You will work in different building environments from offices, sports and catering facilities to specialist laboratories and cutting-edge research facilities.

As a mechanical engineer/HVAC apprentice, you will work with members of the mechanical maintenance team to learn and develop skills in a variety of environments, with different customer needs.

Some of the skills you will gain are:

  • Communication and understanding its importance on a large complex site. With a diverse customer base to ensure everyone stays safe.
  • Understanding complex mechanical and HVAC systems and equipment such as air handling units, combined heat and power generators, boilers, heating systems including district mains, chillers, firefighting systems, pumping system and stored hot water system that feed the University buildings that provide teaching, research, catering and specialist laboratories.
  • Planned maintenance and repairs on mechanical/HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Inspection & testing of mechanical/HVAC systems.
  • Fault finding and diagnostic of mechanical and electrical equipment.
  • Reactive maintenance and emergency repairs.
  • Installation of new systems and equipment.
  • Safe use of access equipment such as scaffolds, desk surfers, steps/ ladders, scissor lifts and MEWPS.
  • Programming advanced building services systems to improve energy efficiency.
  • Knowledge associated with BEMS, Building Energy Management System (BEMS). 
  • Use of computers and PDA’s to log work, produce reports, and read detailed drawings and building schematics.

Qualifications

C/4 or above in English and Maths GCSE is the Entry Requirments for this course. We will ask for evidence of this when applying. If you cannot provide evidence, we unfortunately cannot progress with your application.

Things to consider: 

This role will sometimes involve working outdoors in all weather conditions. Work may be carried out in hazardous areas, at height or within confined spaces.
