Supporting local hospitality sector

We were delighted to be part of the first ever Southampton & Region Hoteliers Association Hospitality Awards which took place earlier this month at Doubletree by Hilton Southampton.
These awards have been designed to seek out and recognise high achievers and best teams of the year within the hospitality sector, and will amplify the best hotels in the city for customer service, guest satisfaction and market growth.
City College proudly sponsored the Young Chef of the Year award. In December, our hospitality tutors met with the three finalists for the category and selected Steven Cross from Best Western Chilworth Manor Hotel as our award winner.
Rebecca Murray and Eleanor Exley presented the Young Chef of the Year award to Steven Cross at the glitzy awards evening. They said: “Steven stood out as someone with a strong passion for the hospitality industry. Being supportive of his colleagues and helping to train new members of staff, Steven has a fantastic understanding and approach to teamwork. His enthusiasm and dedication to develop his own skills and to progress his career also shines through. With a strong, positive attitude to behaviour in the workplace, Steven has all the right ingredients for a long and successful career in hospitality.”
The awards evening also enabled several of our hospitality and catering students to gain valuable work experience as they were recruited as service staff for the event. Huge thanks goes to Tyler, Samuel, Megan, Ricardo, Hannah and Tommy for expertly serving food and drinks to the guests throughout the evening.
The event was attended by over 120 hotel managers, staff, hospitality ambassadors and tourism companies and raised over £1,500 for FareShare, the UK's largest charity fighting hunger and food waste.
