Students build on success in construction competitions

City College students are building on their success after competing in construction competitions this month.
Bricklaying, carpentry and decorating students from the Southampton college took part in two inter-college challenges recently.
The Guild of Bricklayers (Southern Region) inter-college competition was held at Fareham College. Level two brickwork student Nathaniel Warchol, aged 17 from West End, gained second place in the juniors section. Level three apprentice Alistair Smith, 19 from Eastleigh, achieved third place in the seniors.
In addition, six City College students took part in the construction inter-college competition at Brooklands College, Weybridge.
Carpentry students Lee Wells and Adam Cook, brickwork students Dylan Kean and Zac Keith and painting and decorating students Ben Weeks and Jamie Hatt competed against their peers, from colleges across the region. Jamie, 17, from Southampton, took second place in the painting and decorating competition.
City College Southampton Principal, Sarah Stannard, said: “Well done to all the students who took part in these inter-college construction competitions and were able to demonstrate their skills and ability in their chosen professions.
“At City College, we encourage all our students to push themselves to see what they can achieve and we are very proud to see these students excelling in this way.”
