Student Showcase was a smashing success!
Published: 16th April 2019
At the start of April, the Performing and Production Arts students performed their annual Showcase in our very own hub theatre. This year’s theme was centred on stories with the event itself being called ‘The Story of Tonight.’ The two-night show was curated, directed and performed entirely by the students themselves over a six-week time frame.
The annual occasion provides a platform for our students to showcase their broad range of skills and talents. As well as musical theatre, contemporary dance, and Shakespearean monologues, students designed the lighting and managed the sound and special effects behind the scenes. There were also a number of light shows timed to music showcasing the talents of the Production Arts students.
The set was designed to the director’s brief and they had to make sure that liaison and communication between teams stayed strong. The running order was decided from an open audition, students across both years were invited to audition with any piece they chose, so long as it suited the theme, style and standard of the showcase.
The feedback from the showcase has been fantastic, Sue Harnden-Rogers said that “The show blew me away last night all the students were brilliant in their own genres. I was super impressed with Adam and his singing.”
Jenny Mosley also commented saying “what an amazing show – such talented young people. From the light show to the acting and the dancing it was just wonderful and the singing!”
The next production will be of Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’ on 22nd and 23rd May.
