Performing Arts students took to the stage of our Hub Theatre in early December with this year’s family pantomime, Cinderella. This reimagining was packed with amazing songs, laughter and great special effects.

Having watched the play ourselves we are relieved to confirm that love conquers all, fairy godmothers are real and that dreams do come true.

Performing Arts students were involved with both directing this adaptation as well as performing on stage. This theatrical collaboration also saw our Production Arts students develop, design and build the set, lighting, sound and special effects.

Theatrical Hair and Media Make-up students were involved in designing and applying all of the character make-up and wigs, whilst Photography students took all of the show’s promotional and professional headshot photography.

This year’s panto was a resounding success with five shows taking place across the week, opening up the world of live theatre to many local school children, college students, staff and families from across the local community. City College was delighted to welcome 540 children for matinée performances from Maytree, St Johns, and St Marys CEO Primary Schools along with Cowes Enterprise College and Cantell School.

Programme Leader and Teacher in Production Arts Marc Fairclough commented: “Everyone involved should be very proud, it was a fantastic show and despite some key crew illnesses the students came together and put on a professional show.”

Ian Rowsell, Programme Leader and Teacher in Performing Arts said: “The cast did an amazingly professional job. Pantomimes are iconic at Christmas and I think everyone really enjoyed the festive cheer.”

Steph who saw the show on the first night shared “What an amazing show we watched it as 3 generations and all loved it! Congratulations to the cast & everyone behind the scenes, you all clearly worked hard!”

Lisa added “Another great performance from City College! Congratulations to you all on your hard work and dedication. I look forward to the next performance”

Rachael, whose daughter came to the Pantomime said “My daughter, visited your pantomime with her school and I just wanted to say thank you for giving her such a fabulous day. She has come home having thoroughly enjoyed every minute. She's continually recounting all her best bits. The ugly sisters seem to be a firm favourite. I know how much effort, organisation and hard work goes into a production like this and I wanted to let you know how much it was appreciated.
