City College Southampton launched its annual Visual Arts Exhibition last night (June 20) with a private view event to celebrate its creative students' final year of work.
The college’s hub was transformed into an exhibition space where students of all ages displayed work from their creative arts courses, ranging from level 1 to higher education (HND) level. Subjects showcased included fine art, media, illustration, print making, painting, sculpture, theatre make-up, photography, fashion and graphics.
Students were present throughout the private view to talk to invited guests about their journey of research, investigation and experimentation which led them to their exhibition work.
Level 3 fashion and theatre make-up students were put under the spotlight with a fashion show in the college’s professional hub theatre, where they showcased their creativity and talent.
Principal of City College, Sarah Stannard, welcomed guests to the private view and said: “Our annual Art Exhibition is always a great celebration of our students’ fantastic work and it’s been a great year for our students, with many highlights including their work being exhibited at the City Art Gallery as part of British Art Show 8. We’re very pleased that those students who wish to go on to university have been made offers by their first choice universities and wish them all the very best for the future.”
Guests were also welcomed to the opening night with canapés and drinks prepared and served by the college’s hospitality and catering students.
Creative arts and photography lecturer, Victoria Rick, was delighted with the success of the opening night and said: “Well done to all the students for their enthusiasm towards producing a fantastic show that they should all be delighted with. The opening night has been a great success and all the students did the college proud in representing the very best of tomorrow’s future creatives.”
