This year's City College Construction Industry Week Competition has, once again, produced a high standard of work and highlighted to our students the importance of communication and working effectively as a team from across the different trades - as they would when working on a real construction project.

Level 2 full-time students from across the trades (carpentry & joinery, electrical, heating & ventilation, and painting & decorating) worked together as teams to design and build a wall structure, to a specific brief, within a set timeframe in the College's hub.

Design, innovation and the quality of work was officially judged throughout the four-day competition by Barry from Crest Nicholson.

On Thursday 23 March, results of this year's construction competition were announced by Rob Motherwell, Director for Learning (Construction & Engineering), with certificates and prizes presented by Helen Mason, Assistant Principal (Student Support & Workforce Skills). This annual competition relies on the valuable support of our sponsors - a huge thank you goes to the numerous businesses which provided the fantastic prizes and donated materials for the competition.

Individual student winners:

  • Best Carpenter & Joiner - Sam Taulbut
  • Best Electrician - Dylan Grant
  • Best Heat & Vent Fitter - Miguel Paze
  • Best Painter & Decorator - Brad Hadjuga

Winning team:

The trophy for the overall winning structure was awarded to team "Sally". The winning team consisted of students: Ryan Mauger, Jamie Griffiths, Connor Severn, Sam Harding, Toby Cole, Dylan Grant, Connor Harvey and Dylan Hayter.

Well done to everyone who participated - some excellent work!
