Constructing futures with City College
Published: 3rd March 2016
City College Southampton is opening its doors and inviting Hampshire residents to find out more about careers in the construction industry, as part of the ‘Build Your Future’ campaign, on Saturday 12 March.
The ‘Careers in Construction Event’, in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions which kicks off at 12.30pm, invites the public to find out how to get into – or return to – the construction industry, types of careers available in the sector, typical salaries and training opportunities.
Principal Sarah Stannard said: “City College is very much about giving people the skills they need to start their careers or add another string to their bow.
“We mix vocational training with academic learning and real-life experience of the world of work so when our students leave us they are ready for their next step.
“The Careers in Construction Event is set to provide an invaluable insight into the booming construction industry and inform Hampshire residents of how they can get involved. We urge people to come along and find out more.”
Partnership Manager, Department for Work and Pensions, Andy Sherman said: “With 230,000 UK construction jobs to be created in the next five years, there has never been a better time to join the industry. The ‘Build Your Future’ event is therefore a perfect opportunity to learn more about a career in construction and we look forward to collaborating with City College Southampton.”
