The Hub is a medium sized performance and event venue in the centre of Southampton. Housed within a purpose-built £34million development on the campus of City College Southampton the Hub Theatre offers a full programme that mixes professional performance with community centred activities and amateur and educational events. The Hub Theatre is a 240 seat Theatre with proscenium arch stage, superb sight-lines, and professional rig with full height fly gallery and associated back-stage facilities including a workshop and dressing rooms. The Theatre Technician will play an integral part in facilitating the expansion of events and work across the Media and Theatre curriculum area and City Hub Events to ensure both educational and commercial activity is supported successfully.
The Theatre Technician will be responsible for all technical and housekeeping matters for the Hub Theatre and related events including, arranging crew, in liaison with the course leader for technical theatre, and undertaking or supervising stage maintenance work. They will be responsible to the Curriculum Team Leader for Media and Theatre and carry out their duties to the satisfaction of the performance requirements of both the in-house lecturing team and the Event and Commercial Manager for City Hub Events. They will make every effort to meet the requirements of visiting artistic teams, and use the available resources in the most flexible and efficient manner possible. As the space is used for both performance and taught session the Theatre Technician will need to work closely with the lecturing team to ensure access to a safe working space.
