The National Collaborative Outreach Programme is a joint initiative across universities, the Local Authority and colleges providing higher education (HE) throughout the UK. This is an exciting project with the first and second phase funding guaranteed until July 2019. As part of the project Southampton City College and Southampton Solent University have received funding to develop and deliver a ‘People Like Us’ peer mentoring programme.

The post holder will be responsible for providing planning and coordination of the peer mentoring programme. The project will be led by Southampton City College and supported by Southampton Solent University in collaboration with 6 targeted inner city schools in Southampton, specifically targeting year 10 NCOP learners in a peer mentoring programme.

The ‘People Like Us’ peer mentoring programme will train peer mentors from Southampton Solent University to mentor and train learners from Southampton City College to peer mentor in NCOP targeted schools. The principle behind the idea is that the peer mentoring programme will cascade down from the university to the college and then the college to the schools.

You must have experience of working in an education-related field and of working with young people. You must also have an understanding of post-16 and Higher Education qualifications, and of issues relating to progression and social inclusion. 

You will have excellent presentation skills, as well as the ability to speak confidently to large groups. You will be positive, assertive and flexible with excellent attention to detail.  You will also be able to meet challenging deadlines and work within a collaborative team environment. You will be able to demonstrate a commanding presence which holds others interest and have the ability to creatively solve problems.
