About this course

This qualification will prepare you for working with children between birth and eleven years. The course is a combination of practical and theory based topics to give you a range of skills required for working in the industry.

Throughout the course you will need to complete a weekly work placement giving you excellent first-hand experience of working in the childcare industry (see entry requirements for more information).

Entry requirements

During the course you will need to be working, volunteering or on a practical placement to achieve this qualification. This means you will attend for a minimum of 60 hours in an early years setting, followed by a minimum of 60 hours in a primary setting. This is a mandatory part of the assessment process that involves evaluating skills in real working situations. Additionally a DBS will be required by the setting and may incur an additional cost.

A letter from your placement supervisor/manager on headed paper and/or company stamped stating their support for the training and assessment process is required prior to any enrolment process taking place.

NOTE: although there are no specific GCSE entry requirements for this course it is advisable to study Functional Skills and/or GCSE English and maths alongside your course to attain the required A*-C/9-4 grades for future Level 3 progression.

You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto the course.
