Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
Qualification: City & Guilds Award
About the course
This short course is designed for individuals who wish to understand the process of assessment, particularly for those who are about to embark on an assessor role. You will not need to have any experience with assessment practice or have any candidates to assess, but you will need to have an idea of the vocational area you will eventually wish to assess in. This is normally a subject such as hairdressing, construction etc. or any area that you are qualified to level 3 or experienced in.
This course will provide you with the theoretical knowledge and understanding that is needed to get started with the role of assessment and is the first unit towards the full assessment qualification. In order to become a qualified assessor you would also need to complete the practical units e.g. Award in Assessing Vocationally Related Achievement or Award in Competence in the Work Environment.

- Session 2 will cover the planning and involvement with others in assessment

It is recommended that you bring a set of vocational assessment criteria to the class to ensure that you will consider the vocational area you will want to assess in.

Evidence that you can study at Level 3 in Literacy (GCSE or equivalent Level 2 or other higher qualification).
