About this course

This course is suitable for students who have 3 to 5 years site experience in on-site carpentry and are currently working in the industry.

The NVQ Level 2 Diploma has been developed so that you can achieve your qualifications in your work environment.

The qualification enables you to demonstrate your skills, knowledge, understanding and to demonstrate your competence in the real work environment.

What you will learn

You will be working with a team of carpentry and joinery assessors who have a vast amount of up-to-date industry, teaching and assessing experience.

Mandatory units covered on the course include:

  • Conforming to General Health, Safety and Welfare in the Workplace
  • Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace
  • Moving, Handling and Storing Resources in the Workplace.

The learner will also learn key practical skills and knowledge in one of the following optional units:

  • Installing First Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Installing Second Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
  • Setting Up and Using Transportable Cutting and Shaping Machines in the Workplace
  • Installing Fire Resisting Timber Door Assemblies and Door-sets in the Workplace.
Learning style

You will be working with a team of carpentry and joinery assessors who have a vast amount of up to date industry, teaching and assessing experience.

Assessment

Training and assessment will be carried out on the site where you are working.

Various assessment methods are used by the Assessor to check your site-based practical and job knowledge. You will need to generate relevant evidence from the site to meet the performance criteria.

Your employer is required to provide support to you to help you create a range of work in order to generate site based evidence for the portfolio.
