About the course

Students studying this course will learn at our specialist Marine Skills Centre on the waterside in Woolston. It will enable you to develop advanced skills in your chosen specialism - marine engineering or boat building to enter employment or progress your career in the marine industry.

The marine engineering route will cover marine engine maintenance, fault-finding, replacement of components and marine electrics. The boatbuilding pathway will consist of marine joinery, construction of hulls and boat structures and the use of composites materials. Marine electrical will cover small boat systems, navigation and instrumentation, testing, fault finding and commissioning.

Assessment

30% Coursework/practical - 70% exam

Entry requirements
  • GCSEs grade A*-C/9-4 (including English, maths and science) OR
  • Level 2 Marine Systems & Engineering 
  • Mature students with extensive experience and sound knowledge of marine engineering, wood working and electrical systems are considered

You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto this course.
