It outlines the concepts of personal development, which is an integral aspect of person-centred counsellor training. If you wish to learn more about personal development, or are wishing to become a professional counsellor, this introduction will give you the knowledge and experiential learning.

What you will learn

This course will provide you with the skills, attitudes and group experience required to prepare you for training in counselling at level 5.

During this course, you will take part in discussions, group work, and experiencing the processes involved in personal development groups.

Learning style

This will be based within an experiential learning environment where you will take part in a personal development group over the six weeks. The learning style of this course is largely student-centred and relies on you having the motivation and maturity to complete tasks independently as well as ensuring that confidential matters stay within the classroom.

There is no formal assessment on this course, its aim is to offer you the opportunity for development and awareness of person-centred personal development. On completion you will not be a 'qualified' counsellor, but will have more confidence, knowledge and experience in personal development groups.
