About this course
Our Access to Higher Education courses are designed for adults who want to enter Higher Education but may not have the usual qualifications such as A levels. They are accredited through LASER Learning Awards and will help you develop the skills you need to prepare for University.
This course is suitable for you if you would like to take the Diploma to Access over two years. It is also suitable for you if you have achieved a D/3 in GCSE Maths but need to achieve a C/4 grade alongside your Access course.
You will work on some units of the full Diploma course depending on your own needs and time frames, therefore an individual action plan will be agreed for the course. You might want to attend one evening (Nursing and Healthcare route only) or day a week instead of the two for the Diploma. The course is completely flexible to suit your needs.
It will be essential to achieve a grade C/4 or above in GCSE Maths before starting the Access Diploma course.
At the end of the year, you will achieve a college certificate and the units you have completed would be carried over once enrolled onto the Diploma.
What you will learn
You will complete a two week induction covering Harvard referencing, and study skills. You will agree and develop a personal action plan at the start of the course with your tutor and then work on units of study as agreed. For those in the Health professions, these might include units from biology, health studies, human development, independent project, critical thinking, psychology, or the educational units for primary teachers.
A variety of assessments are used these include:

You may then be eligible for a first Level 3 fee waiver, or 19+ loan where the cost of the course would be paid for, if you successfully complete and then go on to university and complete the course from there.
