About the course

This course is ideal if you're a care worker and want to develop or demonstrate your skills, or perhaps progress to become a senior care worker.

The course comprises of mandatory health and social care units with specific pathways which are tailored to your place of work e.g. Learning Disabilities, Dementia or Generic.

It is a recognised qualification for care workers and senior care workers in health and social care.

Learning style

Teaching sessions involve a variety of activities which meet individual learning styles. Support is available to meet individuals learning needs.

Assessment

Assessment is based on both written work and observations in the workplace settings. You will be expected to produce assignments which are assessed by your assessor to cover the underpinning knowledge. Your appointed workplace assessor will look at your competence in the workplace through observations. No exams are necessary for this programme.

Entry requirements

You must be working in a care setting already. You need to be an experienced carer able to support others to ensure good quality of care; you could be in a senior carer or supervisory role. 

You should be able to write and evaluate care plans and risk assessments that others will follow. You may plan activities, administer medication and support more junior colleagues to deliver good quality care. You will also work as part of the multi-disciplinary team liaising with Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, Social Workers, etc.

You will need to bring a letter from your employer confirming your job role and also stating that they will allow us to observe you in the workplace when you come to enrol.

You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto the course.
