About this course

City College is one of the leading providers of English for Speakers of Other Languages in the South of England.

Our full-time courses for 16-18 year olds will improve all of your English – speaking, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation. You will also improve your maths and IT skills as well as having the opportunity to attend trips and take part in activities.

You will be in a class with students from different countries and will learn about English culture and society. If you study entry 3 or level 1 there will be the opportunity to sample other subject areas you might be interested in progressing to.

What you will learn

In the ESOL classes you will learn all aspects of the English language – speaking, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation. Depending on your previous qualifications and assessment, the following options are available: 

  • ESOL Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2
  • Cambridge IGCSE
  • Functional Skills Maths Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3, Level 1 and Level 2
  • GCSE Maths
  • Functional Skills ICT Entry 2 and Entry 3
Entry requirements

To ensure you are on the right course we will give you an assessment to check your English language level. We will also review any exam results you have and advise you on your future study options for when your English has improved enough to progress.

You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto this course.

What next?

Once you have completed your course you can progress on to the next level of study. This can the lead on to further studies such as GCSEs, A-levels, technical courses at City College and then on to university or work.
