EFL Advanced

Qualification: UCLES Certificate
Level 2

About the course

The advanced course looks at new vocabulary and sophisticated grammatical structures. We follow a course book but also with lots of supplementary materials to extend on what is practised. The exam is usually mid June.

What you will learn

The course covers the four skills areas of reading, writing, listening and speaking. It also looks at new vocabulary and grammar. Classes are topic based and cover issues that are relevant to life in the UK and the wider world. It is quite intensive in that there will be speaking and discussions in class to activate passive knowledge and extra grammar exercises and reading and writing will be done at home.

Learning style

A variety of approaches are used to help you learn as much as possible on the course. Our courses tend to be very communicative and encourage you to actively use the stuctures, vocabulary and topics we cover in class. We also use VLE and a number of useful websites to keep your interest.

Assessment

You will be invited in to College to have an assessment and a one to one interview. This will include doing some writing in English, and a multiple choice test followed by a short interview. During the course, we have assessments every 6 weeks so that we can track your progress and discuss this with you.

Entry requirements

You will be given a level test and a one to one interview to assess if this is the right course for you. If you have already passed the Cambridge First Certificate Exam or have a Skills for Life Level 1 in ESOL you can also be accepted and it would be great if you could bring this to interview.

What next?

Once you have completed this course you can progress to the Proficiency course, which is the highest level of English. You would also be able to do an IELTS course if you want to go to university.

Additional information

Ask at reception for an Initial Assessment for English form. You need to complete this form and then we contact you and invite you in for an interview.
