- Nursery Assistant
- Early Years or Playgroup Assistant working with children under five
- Assistant Play Worker in an out of school setting
What you will learn
Early Years apprenticeships are for people who work with children aged from birth to 16 years (and their families) in settings or services whose main purpose is children’s care, learning and development, e.g. child minder’s own home, crèches, community based services, day care, extended schools, hospitals, playgroups, pre-schools, primary care, schools and Sure Start programmes.
An apprentice can expect to be doing work based learning with an employer and to be paid a wage. The apprenticeship will include a CACHE certificate/diploma combined qualification, functional skills/GCSE, and an Employment qualification.
No previous qualifications are required and a full assessment will take place to ensure you have the skills to complete the qualification. Those wishing to progress onto an advanced apprenticeship will require GCSEs A*-C/9-4 in English and maths (or equivalent) or demonstrate, through the assessment process, that you are able to achieve this.
All applicants will undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto an apprenticeship.

You will attend college half a day or one evening a week to ensure you get the support you need to succeed. The rest of the training will take place in the workplace with in-house training by the employer and an assessor who will visit you on site.
Evidence of knowledge and competency can be obtained through: observations in the workplace, physical products of work, reports, plans, online assessments, correspondence, witness testimony, discussion and questioning.
Apprentices will also be assigned an Assessor, who will visit them every 12 weeks to ensure they are happy with their progress and on track to achieve.
