About the course
This course is ideal if you wish to pursue a career in the creative arts sector and have a real enthusiasm for Art and Design. It is equivalent to three A-Levels and is a recognised route to degree level study.
The course includes a broad range of work including Fashion, Textiles, photography, 3D Design, Graphic Design, Print Making and Multi-Media.
Most of the work is practical and studio/workshop based. There will be class discussions, specialist workshops and lectures on the more theoretical aspects of the course and you will visit galleries, museums and local employers to enhance your knowledge. You will showcase your work to the public, local employers and higher education institutions at our end of year exhibition.
By the end of the course you will have built a comprehensive portfolio of general art and design work. If you wish to continue your studies you can apply for the 2nd year (Extended Diploma in Art & Design). You will then pursue a specialist area of interest, such as Fine Art, Graphics, photography, Fashion, Textiles or 3D Design in great depth and build a specialist portfolio.

You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto this course.

There are a range of University degrees and different careers within the creative industries that you can progress to if you go on to complete the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design (2nd year of study). This may include:
- Textile design
- Fashion design
- Visual merchandising
- Product design
- Graphic design
Students are expected to come to College prepared with sketchbooks and a basic range of materials and tools. Full details of the kit requirements are provided to students on enrolment. All specialist equipment and materials is provided by the College, however there may be a requirement to purchase additional items throughout the year as projects develop and progress into independent areas of enquiry and interest.
