About the course
This qualification provides knowledge and practical skills designed for learners who work and wish to develop their career in barbering. The level 3 NVQ Diploma in barbering provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge that prove occupational competence as a senior barber. If you wish to extend your knowledge and technical ability in barbering especially clipper over comb, scissor over comb and wet shaving this is the course for you. During the course you will cover 7 units of barbering including creative cutting, providing shaving services, designing facial hair, creating patterns, providing specialist hair and scalp treatments and contributing to promotional activities.

The course is a careful balance of theory and practical work. You will be able to gain extra commercial work experience in the College salon as well as attending lectures and tutorials.
Your theory and practical work will be continually assessed throughout the programme. To re enforce underpinning knowledge students are encouraged to participate in student led activities within the class, complete work packs and evolve online tests to produce a portfolio of evidence compiled by the student.
You will be expected to provide models for your practical assessments and work on external clients.
You will need to have level 2 barbering to progress onto level 3 barbering.
You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto the course.

After completion of this course you will gain a NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Barbering. You will be able to apply for work as a Barber in barber shops, salons health farms, cruise liners or own your own business or work on a self-employed basis.
You will be required to purchase a barbering kit for the practical assessments. You will be required to wear a uniform to all practical sessions, this consists of a black tunic/shirt with matching trousers and black closed in shoes. The information on where to buy the uniform and kit can be obtained at time of interview.
As part of the course, you will be required to complete essential homework as well as practicing your vocational skills in your own time or in your workplace.
You will be able to log onto the college virtual learning environment called “citybit” to work from anywhere and download handouts to support your assignments and the theoretical elements of the course.
