About the course

This course is perfect if you enjoy all things science-related, have a particular interest in problem solving and investigation and want a career in criminology and forensics.

Assisting in a criminal enquiry or piecing together the jigsaw of a complex crime scene is a challenging profession but, at the same time, hugely rewarding knowing that your skills and knowledge could help to solve the puzzle in an important investigation.

Throughout the course you will develop your scientific understanding and practical skills through a series of assignments and challenging investigations which utilise some of the techniques used by crime scene investigators and forensic scientists in the workplace including collecting evidence from crime scenes and analysis of evidence through chemical spectroscopy, fingerprint analysis, chemical and biological testing.

If a career in criminology and forensics is for you, then this course is the ideal stepping stone you’ll need to progress to university-level study.

What you will learn

Over the two years you will learn a variety of subjects within criminology and forensic investigation including:

Year 1:

  • Principles and applications of science
  • Practical scientific procedures and techniques
  • Science investigation skills
  • Forensic investigation procedures in practice

  • Environmental forensics in crime

Year 2:

  • Applications of criminology
  • Criminal investigation procedures in practice
  • Applications of criminal and forensic psychology

  • Forensic traffic collision investigation

Entry requirements
  • 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C/9-4 (including English, maths and science)

You will be required to attend an interview at the College prior to enrolling onto this course.
