This part-time Beauty Therapy course is designed to teach the basics of a host of beauty therapy treatments ranging from manicure to waxing. The one-year course is divided into two x 4-hour sessions each week. In order to learn all treatments and skills you are required to attend both classes each week.

You will develop skills in a range of beauty treatments to enable you to work in the industry, including facial skin care, manicure, pedicure, hair removal, and make-up, in addition to professional customer service techniques.

Lessons will be taught in the colleges very own modern, professional, commercial salons where you will have the opportunity to practice the skills you have learnt on paying customers. The salons are a real asset to the college and the experience you will have whilst working in them, will prepare you for any work you will have in a salon in the future. Having this facility also allows you develop customer service and customer relations skills as well as all the practical ability to carry out the treatments.

All teaching methods are selected to meet the levels and abilities of the individuals within the class and lecturers will do their best to meet the needs of every member of their class as individuals.

Training at City College will give you a huge advantage as you will learn in our purpose beauty salons, Kudos. You will learn with industry standard equipment working under supervision with real clients to give you a wealth of experience. 2 salons with 12 individual cubicles comprising of couch, trolley, seat and sink area. A curtain provides privacy.

Assessments are carried out throughout the year and are a part of your study. As well as taking part in practical lessons in the salons, you are required to participate in student led activities within the class, complete work packs and case studies to create a portfolio of evidence. Carrying out these tasks will give you theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills.

As well as taking part in practical and theory lessons, you are required to revise for your online exams in your own time as well as practicing practical skills at home. Recommended time for this home study is approximately 10 hours per week.

Alongside practicing practical skills at home, you will be expected to provide models for your practical assessments; your models will be expected to contribute to the cost of consumables.

Online exams and written course work.

  • All applications require a good standard of education in English, Maths and Science with GCSEs at grade 3/D or above (or the equivalent), and candidates who have successfully completed Level 1 Beauty course with a satisfactory reference and skills assessment
  • You will be required to evidence the highest English qualification you have achieved, or complete an online assessment to verify your current English working level
  • You will also be required to attend a College interview prior to enrolling onto the course
  • This course is designed for over 19s only
  • If you are a learner from the EU or have been an ESOL student will require a good standard of spoken English (Level 1 or above) so that you can hold a conversation with our wide client base

 

Successful completion of this qualification could lead to working in beauty salons, on cruise ships or in health clubs, in job roles such as:

  • Beauty Therapist
  • Make-Up Artist
  • Mobile Therapist

Alternatively you can advance your training at Level 3 in a variety of specialisms:

  • Level 3 Beauty Therapy
  • Level 3 Body Massage

The beauty industry is a professional career with health and safety regulations set by City & Guilds; therefore, we have certain rules within the beauty salons that you must adhere to.

You will not be able to learn and work in our beauty salons without the following:

  • A clean and well-pressed salon standard dress with closed-toe black shoes (no trainers)
  • If wearing make-up, it must be natural, understated make-up with no false eyelashes or false acrylic/gel nails
  • Hair to be securely tied back
  • No jewellery except a wedding band
  • Beauty kit

Please note that uniforms are purchased through the college suppliers to ensure a high standard of presentation in our Kudos Hair and Beauty Salons.

Consumables of £30 will have to be paid at the first session of the course.
