About the course

Do you enjoy the Great British Bake-Off? Have you ever wanted to bake your own bread or make some delicious confectionary lines including cakes and biscuits? Well now is your chance!

This is a new course for all budding bakers. Making your own bread and cakes has become very popular. There is nothing like having the satisfaction of making something yourself. 

This short evening course will cover a lot of different bakery skills from moulding, modelling, piping and different mixing techniques.

All equipment and ingredients are provided. You also get a recipe book to take home with you along with your baked goods.

Baking for Beginners is for anyone interested in baking.
No experience is necessary. All abilities welcome.

What you will learn

During this enjoyable six-week course you will learn how to make:

  • Dorset apple cake
  • Ginger cake
  • Bakewell tart
  • Cherry/walnut cake
  • Lemon meringue
  • Fresh cream fruit Swiss roll
  • Florentines
  • Other goodies 

Best of all you get to take all your products home!  You will be provided with a recipe book with all the recipes and information you need to create your products at home.

Learning style

All of the learning is completed through practical sessions in the college’s new kitchen facility.  The classes are instructive while in a relaxed atmosphere. After a demonstration you will make your own product. Questions will be answered and lots of hints and tips will be given throughout the course.

This course runs on Tuesday evenings. There are no assessments or written work and a college certificate will be awarded on completion.

Entry requirements

There are no specific entry requirements for this course, just a love of baking. Some students are already baking at home but want to improve their skills, while other students are complete beginners. All abilities are welcome.

No interview is required for this course, so please come in to see us with your method of payment and we’ll be happy to enrol you.

Additional information

Everything will be provided for you but please remember to bring containers/bag to take home your bakery goods. If you want to bring your own apron you can but a disposable one will be provided.
