About this course

This short part-time course is designed for people who already have a level 2 qualification and would like to advance their cutting skills. Trends change continuously so advanced cutting skills are amongst the most important you will need as a hairdresser. You will learn a variety of creative styles including long, short and reverse graduations as well as texturised, asymmetric and disconnected looks. You will learn how to adapt your cut and personalise to suit your client’s needs.

What you will learn

You will cover a variety of advanced cutting & styling techniques, including:

  • Fundamental classics

  • Long graduation – natural inversion, transient

  • Texturising techniques – slicing, channel, deep point, razor

  • Disconnection – long hair

  • Razor cutting – inverted bob

  • Asymmetric, under cutting

  • Textured short crop

  • Creative blow dry techniques

Training at City College will give you a huge advantage as you will learn in our purpose built hair salons, Kudos. You will learn with industry standard equipment working under supervision with real clients to give you a wealth of experience.

Entry requirements
  • Level 2 in Hairdressing
  • A good standard of physical health is required as hairdressing is often physically demanding and is not suitable for some skin conditions
  • You will be required to attend a short interview at the College prior to enrolling onto the course
Additional information

You will require a hairdressing kit for the practical assessments and due to health and safety regulations, you will be required to wear a uniform of a black top, black trousers and black closed in toed shoes. The information on where to buy kit will be given at interview.

You will also be required to find models for your practical assessments, who will be expected to contribute to the cost of consumables.
