The 18th Edition of BS7671 is the latest update to the wiring regulations and is an essential qualification for anyone involved in the design, construction and inspection and testing of electrical systems. It is also a nationally recognised ‘must have’ qualification for companies seeking to recruit electricians.

This course is held over 9 live taught sessions, delivered online via Zoom. The exam will be held on-site at the College at 2pm, on Thursday 19th May 2022.

This qualification is intended to introduce you to a working knowledge of wiring regulations along with a brief overview of the electricity at work regulations covering their statutory duties. Previous knowledge of the regulations is not assumed, however, a fundamental knowledge of electrical principles is assumed.

Please be aware that the wiring regulations course is not designed to teach you every regulation in the book, but it will teach you the best practices on how to reference the latest regulations as you would on the job. As such key topics currently covered on the 17th Edition will still be included.

You will study the latest standard of the IEE wiring regulations, including essential subjects such as safety, selection and erection of electrical equipment.

There are 7 key modules and current amendments:

Section 1 – Scope, Object and Fundamentals
Section 2 – Definitions
Section 3 – Assessment of general characteristics
Section 4 – Protection for Safety
Section 5 – Selection and Erection of equipment
Section 6 – Inspection & Testing
Section 7 – Special Installations or locations

This course does include the latest amendments such as:

  • Electromagnetic disturbance
  • Surge protection
  • Medical locations
  • Operating and maintenance gangways

This course will be delivered live though the online platform Zoom. It will show, teach and perfect you on how to reference and use the book for situations that you will encounter while working in the field.

The examination is a 2-hour multiple choice, open book, PC based exam with instant results.

Please note that you must bring photographic ID such as a passport or Driving Licence with you in order to sit your exam.

This course has been designed for electricians, contractors and those requiring a working knowledge of the latest edition of the Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations BS 7671:2018 qualification. This course is delivered via Zoom with live teaching over 9 evening sessions and provides in-depth training on the 18th edition of the IET Wiring Regulations and will include a summative 2-hour exam on the full content of the regulations.
