Southampton City Council are currently looking for an apprentice carpenter.
Job Role & Responsibilities
Alongside training, the apprenticeship will involve undertaking carpentry work on Southampton City Council properties, including domestic properties, schools, public and office premises. It will include planned and programmed works, day-to-day repairs and void properties, it may also involve some new builds.
There are clear physical demands. The work is strenuous and a lot of time is spent standing, kneeling, bending or crouching. On-site carpenters may need to work in inclement weather, climb ladders, work in restricted space e.g. lofts or on scaffolding.
You will need to already have the skills to use basic carpentry tools - specific training will be provided for specialist tools.
As an apprentice carpenter, you will need to develop skills in manual tasks, to a high degree of accuracy, plus have a conscientious approach to your work with the ability to follow tight specifications.
You will need to have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing effectively, and able to carry out duties as instructed to a reasonable standard.
You must be flexible and sufficiently skilled to complete all aspects of the job.
Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade C/4 or above (including maths and English)
