Wage:

£4.20 per hour.
Working hours are 9:00-17:30 with half an hour for lunch. Some degree of flexibility in these hours is possible to accommodate the needs of the business as well as the apprentice.

Vacancy Description

Small Robot Company requires an apprentice who will work within the service and support team (team lion) directly under the supervision of a senior robot mechanic. They will learn to operate the robots on farms, assist the development team during trials, diagnose problems and carry out in-field repairs and learn how to repair and maintain the robots. Their primary role is the maintenance and repair of the robots but, because it is a small team, they will also need to operate robots in the field.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Learn how to operate the different types and versions of robots. They are complex electro-mechanical devices with processors, radio comms, GPS capability and multiple sensors.
  • For the first year the apprentice will be expected to assist in the operation of the robots in the field, but after a year this will decrease to concentrate more on their repair and maintenance back at base.
  • Assist with the logistics of getting the robots to the right place at the right time. The apprentice will need to be able to help with the loading and transport of robots so will need a full, clean driving licence.
  • Communicate with the rest of the team on a daily basis to ensure their tasks are co-ordinated with everyone else. Priorities will change frequently, so good communications are important.
  • Liaise with the farmers when operating the robots on their fields. Let them know arrival times, progress and predicted completion of the task.
  • If unable to perform an in-field repair, contact base to get further advice and instruction. Document the issue so that the problem can be replicated and investigated.
  • Be responsible for updating user and maintenance manuals.
  • Use an asset management system to undertake regular stock checks and order parts when required.
  • Think Health and Safety. Keep yourself safe as well as others.

Qualifications

A* to C in English and Maths GCSE.
