    Over 1000 downloadable, free textbooks available in five different languages. Topics include: economics, business, statistics, IT, engineering, natural science and travel.
  • British Universities Film and Video Council (BUFVC) 
    Access nine databases containing over 13 million records relating to TV, radio, film, plays and the news.
  • BUBL 
    BUBL is a catalogue of carefully selected internet resources covering all academic subject areas.
  • Directory of Open Access Journals 
    Free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals, covering all subjects and many languages.
  • eBookShelf 
    A collection of 25,000 e-books covering a range of subjects including fiction, travel, art, drama and history.
  • Ebrary 
    A collection of over 3000 e-books covering many subject areas.
  • GreenFILE 
    Environmental articles, documents and reports which include topics such as global warming, recycling and alternative fuel sources.
  • Infotrac 
    Database containing newspaper and journal articles, many of which are full text. Includes a wide range of topics including:business, computers, current events, economics, education, environmental issues, health care, hobbies, humanities, law, literature and art, politics, science, social science, sports, technology, and general interest.
  • Intute 
    Intute is a free online service that helps you to find the best web resources for your studies and research.
  • Issues Online 
    Comprehensive resource addressing social issues such as drugs, alcohol, crime, discrimination and the environment. Includes news and views on each topic, key facts, key statistics, lobby group links, newspaper archives, reference sites, research guides and glossaries plus assignment/debate suggestions.
  • KnowUK 
    Online reference centre that includes local information, dictionaries, encyclopaedias, and Which? Guides. The resource covers a range of topics including: law, careers, religion, art and design.
  • NLN Materials 
    NLN materials provide e-learning resources that support a range of Further Education subject and topic areas. Materials have been developed to suit different learning styles and can be adapted to suit the accessibility need of learners.

Toolkit

Shibboleth / Accessing Secure sites

Some of the Learning centre's electronic resources will require you to log in using the Shibboleth validation service (especially if you use them outside College). You will need your college username and password to do this. If you have any problems logging in, please contact the Learning Centre, or phone us on 02380 577 307.

Accessing Secure Resources

Some e-resources cannot be accessed using Shibboleth and require an individual username and password. This list gives details of all individual usernames and passwords you will need to access these resources.
