We value our strong relationships with schools within Southampton and Hampshire, and our dedicated school liaison team works to ensure that we continue to offer a variety of opportunities for pupils, teachers and parents to learn more about City College and their options for further study, work-based learning and career progression.
We offer a wide range of activities, workshops, presentations, talks and tours which can be tailored to suit particular subject areas or year groups if required. You can book to visit us at our city centre campuses, or our staff can visit your school. We also welcome any thoughts or suggestions that you may have.

College Taster and Activity Sessions
To promote our industry standard resources and facilities to schools and their pupils, we are offering free places to students and staff in a series of flexible workshops. These activities can compliment school PHSE or Careers Curriculum. We can offer a wide range of tasters as detailed below including a Media taster day.
Subject Specific Taster Sessions
The majority of our on-site liaison activity with Schools has continued to revolve around course taster sessions. These sessions are bespoke and designed to meet the level and need of the individual and school. They will involve a combination of career workshops, vocational practical experience and 'Life at College' sessions that are all fun and engaging. Groups must be interested in the same subject or course of study. We do not offer mixed generic sessions to ensure all students get a realistic experience in an area they are interested in.
Session Dates
In order to be flexible in meeting the requirements of schools we will continue to offer individual taster days to schools, but with more consideration given to the choices and level of the pupils attending.
To book, please email Paul Herbert on paul.herbert@southampton-city.ac.uk
Session Levels
Whilst being mindful of the need to raise aspirations and showcase the College, it is important that we are realistic with pupils, particularly in Year 11 about the opportunities they have for studying with us.
Schools will be asked to provide an appropriate level for the group of pupils attending, which will be used by college staff to match the activity and course area.
Career Session
As an accompaniment to the taster sessions we will also offer schools the chance to utilise a one-hour Career Session, focusing on a curriculum area at the college.
The sessions will be based on a career lesson plan, designed to be deliverable either by a teacher in the school, or by a member of College staff. The session can be used in preparation for a visit to the College, during the College taster or as a one-off session.
To facilitate this we will prepare a Resource Pack appropriate for each curriculum area at the college focusing on:
- Industry Information
- Types of job, what the work involves
- What can you earn
- Courses available at the College
The information will be delivered through a series of fun and engaging activities, including icebreakers, games and role play, with the option to tailor the session to the group by selecting level appropriate activities.
Campus Quiz
Designed for small groups of 2 to 8 pupils, accompanied by a member of staff, this one-hour self guided quiz allows the pupils to explore the College campus, seeing the facilities, finding out information about the courses on offer, and past student successes.
Three different routes are available, allowing 3 groups to take part simultaneously.
