"We are what we always were in Salem, but now the crazy little children are jangling the keys to the kingdom, and common vengeance writes the law!"
Deeply tragic and thought-provoking, The Crucible takes as its basis the chilling events of the 1692 Salem witch-hunt. When a group of young girls belonging to a strict puritan community is discovered dancing in the woods, superstition and hysteria tear through the village of Salem, Massachusetts. Finally given the opportunity to express themselves, and driven by long-standing jealousies and disputes, the girls and the town’s authorities unleash a torrent of violence on their neighbours, with tragic consequences for those with the courage to stand against them.
"One of a handful of great plays that will both survive the twentieth century and bear witness to it"- John Peter, Sunday Times.
"A rending exploration of a community possessed by the demons of superstition, malice and fear." The Times Literary Supplement.
Arthur Miller’s The Crucible is brought to you by Broken Arrow Productions – a collective of young adults with a passion for the performing arts.
