College marks 60 years of educating Southampton

A YEAR of celebrations is on the cards at City College Southampton as it toasts its diamond jubilee.

The college, which educates more than 7,000 young people and adults every year, will hold activities throughout 2012 to mark the occasion. They will include an anniversary dinner, a plaque unveiling and '60th' themed projects for students.

The celebrations continue from 2011, when City College rang in one of its most successful years to date. During the year the college received its best ever Ofsted report, was listed as the 4th best performing GFE college in the country for success rates, had the top success rates for 16-19 year olds in the area and a record number of students went on to study at university.

Lindsey Noble, Principal and CEO, said: "City College has stood firm in the centre of Southampton for 60 years and played an important part in the lives and careers of so many people. We are certainly going to celebrate our diamond jubilee year and reflect on the successes that have taken place."
