100 per cent success rate for first A level students at City College

City College Southampton's A level provision has got off to a flying start with a 100 per cent pass and success rate for students in their first year.
The college began offering A level qualifications alongside vocational courses last September and today (August 16) the first wave of students to take the programme received the results for the first stage of their qualifications - AS levels.
The 100 per cent success rate puts the college on track for yet more celebration next year when students go on to gain their full A level qualifications.
City College introduced 'combined' A levels in September 2011 to give students studying vocational qualifications the best of both worlds - the academic stretch as well as the hands-on confidence.
By combining A levels with vocational qualifications the college says students are likely to get even better grades in their practical work, with the A level underpinning their knowledge, and they will have a competitive edge when they go for jobs.
Principal and CEO, Lindsey Noble, said: "This is a superb result and stands the students in good stead to succeed in their full A level qualifications next year. What is even more promising than the statistic itself is that the students really are excelling in their vocational qualifications, compacting our belief that a combined approach to further education gives learners a well-rounded and competitive start to their career, university course or higher education training.
