Technical Theatre & Stage Management
Theatre is a highly collaborative experience. Although the most obvious figures known to theatre are the actors, plays and events are usually produced by a production team that could include a scenic or set designer, lighting designer, sound designer, stage manager, makeup artist and hair artist.
Luke Hornbuckle achieved distinction in BTEC Level 3 Production Arts and is now employed by The Berry Theatre as a chief technician
Our qualifications provide the relevant skills and experience for anyone considering a career behind the scenes of the theatre industry. We work closely with a number of local theatres including The Mayflower, Nuffield Theatre, King's Theatre (Portsmouth), Chichester Festival Theatre, Ferneham Hall (Fareham), The Point (Eastleigh) and the Theatre Royal (Winchester). Students work as technical staff within our own Hub Theatre and also provide technical support for local schools in Southampton and further afield.
You will be taught in our own professional theatre and workshops if you choose the technical pathway, or in our commercial Kudos hair and beauty salons if you choose the Make-up and Hair pathway.
At City College you will learn the tools of the trade by working in the college theatre, workshops and studios to understand how performances come together.
Depending on your GCSE grades, you may be able to study an A Level alongside your chosen level 3 career led course.
