Theatre is a highly collaborative experience. Although the most obvious figures in theatre are the actors, plays and events are usually produced by a production team that could include a scenic or set designer, lighting designer, sound designer, stage manager, makeup artist and hair artist.
Luke Hornbuckle achieved distinction in BTEC Level 3 Production Arts and is now employed by The Berry Theatre as a chief technician
These qualification are ideal for anyone considering a career behind the scenes of the theatre industry. We work closely with a number of local theatres including The Mayflower, Nuffield Theatre, King's Theatre (Portsmouth), Chichester Festival Theatre, Ferneham Hall (Fareham), The Point (Eastleigh) and the Theatre Royal (Winchester). Students act as technical staff within our own Hub Theatre and also provide technical support for local schools in Southampton and further afield.
All of our equipment and resources, for both courses, is state of the art, since moving to a new building. You will be taught in our own professional theatre and workshops if you chose the technical pathway, or in our commercial beauty and hair salons, if you chose the Makeup and Hair pathway
Specialist Facilities
At City College you will learn the tools of the trade by working in the college theatre, workshops and studios to understand how performances come together.
How Will I Be Assessed?
You will complete written assignments and practical tasks.

Course information for parents
Level 3 (A level equivalent)
We have a range of level 3 programmes which are equivalent to 3 A levels (360 UCAS points). These information sheets are user friendly for parents. It gives you the main detail of the equivalence of the qualification along with an outline of course content, learning strategies, progression routes and a case study of a previous learner.
