Do you have creative flair to make people look good and enjoy meeting new people? If you are outgoing, friendly, enjoy working with your hands and thrive on being creative, then becoming a professional hairdresser could be for you. We offer courses in hairdressing, barbering and afro Caribbean from level 1 to level 4.

 

Carole Hollier from Cantell School has successfully progressed through from Level 1 to 3 and is employed as a stylist at Jagged Edge Hair Creations

Training for a career in this demanding field is varied; you'll explore the science behind hair and learn the skills of the industry in a real commercial environment. There is a huge range of career opportunities too, at City College we help you explore the different career opportunities through trips, hair competitions and you take part in our outstanding industry week. You could work in a local salon as a stylist or perhaps you have ambitions to run your own salon one day. You could work on a cruise liner or health spa or even specialise in theatrical or media styling for use in plays and films. We run full level 2 & 3 afro Caribbean hair and barbering courses if you wanted to specialise in a particular field. We offer other courses alongside your hairdressing course to give you the skills your need to achieve your dream.

Salon stylist, salon manager/ supervisor, hair technician, colour technician, instructor, teacher, media stylist, barber, theatrical stylist.

 

Specialist Facilities


You will work in the college salon 'Kudos', which is within the New building, with its updated equipment, which creates  an outstanding learning environments in Hair and Beauty and is open to members of the public during the week (inc saturdays), providing you with a real working environment. Working with real, paying clients, gives you the opportunity to enhance your customer service skills and improve your range of hairdressing skills.

 

How Will I Be Assessed?

You will be assessed through a combination of written assignments, practical assessments and written exams. You will be required to create a portfolio of evidence during your course with photos of your clients.
