About the course:
The City Horizons programme is part of the new Foundation Learning programme and is individually designed for young people like you. The programme is aimed at young people aged 16 – 18 who are working at Entry level – Level 1. (GCSE grades D and below).
Course Content:
This is a new qualification at City College and forms part of City Horizons Foundation learning programme. In addition to undertaking this course, you will also be required to complete Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT. This will enable you to progress onto a Level 2 course of your choice or enhance your opportunities of gaining full time employment or an apprenticeship.
This programme prepares students for entry into the Uniformed Services ( armed forces, merchant navy, police, fire service, ambulance service etc.)
You should be motivated and keen to learn, and have a general interest in the armed services and enjoy practical and outdoor activities. Organised visits off campus are part of the course
Assessment is by a combination of assignments, presentations and practical assessments undertaken and completion of a portfolio of evidence.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY: All students will have to participate in physical activity and team building activities which form part of their course and assessments.

Assessment:
Ongoing assessment throughout the year.
There will be formal exams for Functional Skills – Maths, English and ICT
Progression:
In order to progress you must complete all parts of the programme including Functional Skills.
There are various progression routes including:
Level 2 vocational programme
Apprenticeship / employment with training
Supported employment or independent living
Additional Information:
This course forms part of the City Horizons programme. Students will also be enrolled on IT, Maths and English Functional Skills in order to bring Literacy and Numeracy levels up to GCSE level.
