About the course:
The BTEC Diploma in Construction is a two year part time attended qualification that is designed to meet the needs of adult learners who are either working in the construction industry or are considering a career change. Attendance is one day/week over 34 weeks/year. The course offers candidates three construction pathways: Construction, Civil Engineering and Building Services Engineering. All three pathways entail studying six units over the first year; four units are generic to all pathways whilst the remaining two units are specific to the candidates’ pathway chosen. The second year of study consists of a further six units all of which are subject specific to the pathway chosen.
Success Story:
Following on from a successful completion of an Advanced (Level 3) in Carpentry and Joinery James’ employer (Kier Southern) decided to further his studies within the Professional Construction department.
James studied with us for two years and worked hard to achieve the highest grades in all areas of the course. Throughout his time with us he developed into a confident, highly skilled construction manager and has gone on to study a degree in Construction Management at Sheffield University.

Entry Requirements/Qualifications:
Applicants will have a mature approach to studying coupled with vocational experience and ideally will have 4 GCSE Grade C or above, including English, Maths, Science and one other. Alternatively a First Diploma/Level 2 Diploma in Construction can be held.
Equally, candidates with an NVQ3 Advanced Craft in a construction related skills and/or candidates with relevant industrial experience are invited to apply: all applicants are subject to interview.
Learning Style:
The BTEC Diploma in Construction and Building services Engineering is a theory and practical work-related course. Successful learning is achieved by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands. As well as learning about the specific employment area you have chosen, you also develop the skills and confidence needed to enhance your career.
Equipment Requirements:
Candidates will be expected to arrive to college with pens, pencils, calculator, some drawing instruments (wait to be advised from your tutor) and a folder for notes and their portfolio of work.
Assessment:
Candidate progress is measured throughout the length of the course using assignment based assessment; either controlled or set as coursework; this allows the candidate and teaching team to gauge the learning performance on a continuing basis.
Progression:
Successful completion of the Level 3 Diploma can lead to an offer on the Level 4 HNC in either the Construction of Building Services Engineering pathways.
