City College wins award for commitment to the region

CITY College Southampton has been recognised for its 60 years of upskilling and championing the region by being named 'Business Solent Champion of the Year'.
The college was given the title on Friday night as it was crowned a winner at the South Coast Business Awards, run by the Southern Daily Echo.
The awards recognise the achievements of companies and organisations across the region and City College won the 'Business Solent Champion of the Year' category after demonstrating its excellence in several areas. These included its involvement in projects and events that bring businesses, investment and people to the Solent, as well as its commitment to changing lives through learning and arming the Solent's businesses with relevant skills to drive economic prosperity.
City College was commended in particular for Principal and CEO Lindsey Noble's mission to encourage business leaders to engage with young people and its work in bringing businesses and education together.
Lindsey Noble, Principal and CEO, said: "It is a true honour to receive this accolade, particularly in 2012 as we are celebrating 60 years of educating and upskilling the region. The award is testament to the hard work and dedication of all staff and we look forward to furthering our commitment to the Solent in the years to come."
Business Solent CEO, Sally Lynskey, added: "City College richly deserves this accolade. They have worked really hard to develop strong links with the local business community and they are very active within Business Solent.
"City College has wonderful facilities and Business Solent has been proud to host events at The Hub. We also welcome Lindsey's contribution to the Action Groups."
City College collected its award at a glittering award ceremony sponsored by Trethowans and run in partnership with Business Solent and Destination Southampton on Friday. The event brought together some 300 individuals from businesses across the region.
