Financial Support
Fees and Costs
If you are studying with us on a full time basis (usually over 12.5 hours per week) and are aged between 16-18 at the start of your course, you will not have to pay tuition fees.
You may have some additional costs for materials, uniforms or exams - depending on the course you are studying. You can get more information about your possible additional costs for the course you want to do from the student services team at College.
Students aged 19 and over and international students will be required to pay tuition fees. Ask Student Services on 023 80 48 48 48 if you think this applies to you.
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
EMA is a weekly payment of £10, £20 or £30 a week depending on your household income. The money is intended to help you with the day-to-day costs of learning at college, including travel, books or kit.
You should apply for EMA as soon as your place is confirmed - your school can tell you how. EMA is paid directly into your bank account if you stay on learning at college after your GCSEs, and is available during term time for any full time course at City College (up to and including level 3).
If you're entitled, you'll receive your EMA payment every week of your course as long as you turn up 100% of the time and show commitment to your learning programme. You may also be entitled to bonus payments of £100 depending on the progress you make with your learning programme. Your weekly payments will be based on your household income (or that of your parents if you live at home). Find out what you may be entitled to by calling the EMA helpline on 0808 101 6219.
