Marine

City College has achieved full CoVE status  which means we are accredited as a Centre of Vocational Excellence for Marine Industries.

 

Based by the water in Woolston, our centre has benefited from recent investment in new resources and is the ideal learning environment for anyone wishing to learn new skills or increase their skills base.

 

Marine Qualifications & Training

City College runs specialist marine qualifications and NVQs in:

 

  • Boat building
  • Marine engineering
  • Marine electronics
  • Composite Technology

 

These comprehensive courses run on both a full time and part time basis.

 

Part time courses run one day per week so you will need day release from your employer to be able to attend the Maritime Technology Centre.

 

As we are accredited as a CoVE centre, our courses are very highly regarded in the maritime industry. We have excellent links with employers and other trianing centres in the area through our CoVE status, which means we can offer the very latest skills and techniques as part of our courses. We are currently attract students from as far away as Surrey.

 

Our team of tutors and NVQ assessors are very experienced, all of whom having worked in the industry. Our CoVE status has enabled the college to invest even more money into making sure we have all the latest technology and processes within our workshops.

 

Short courses in Marine Industries

In addition to our marine qualifications and NVQs, City College also runs practical short courses in specialist areas of Marine Industries.

 

Cosmetic Gelcoat Repair and Finishing (GRP)

This course runs in either 1 day or 2 day format depending on your abilities and preferences. The course is ideal for current boat owners who want to maintain their own boats or for people who are looking to get into the marine industry.

 

The course covers both theory and practical areas of Gelcoat repair and finishing. Practical modules include preparation, matching, mixing & application and curing.

 

Glass Reinforced Plastic Hand Laminating

This is an outstanding one-week course, which is aimed at beginners to the industry or the more 'hands on' boat owner. The course runs for 5 consecutive days and allows the learner to really get to grips with GRP.

 

We run this course for groups of no more than 10 which means all learners receive close tuition and guidance throughout the course.
