About the course:

The Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Nail Services Programme is a One year programme. The course is design for new learners wanting to focus on niche area of nails. You will be able to progress to level 3 Diploma in Nail Technology.  In addition, you will be required to complete home study to prepare for online exams and practice the skills that have been demonstrated in the practical lessons.

Louise successfully completed NVQ level 2 in Nail Services, and has developed her own business and is working successfully freelance.


Course Content:

Mandatory Units: you need these units for a full L2 qualification

G20 Ensure responsibility for actions to reduce risks to health and safety

G4 Fulfil salon reception duties

G18 Promote additional services or products to clients

G8 Develop and maintain your effectiveness at work

N2 Provide manicure services

N3 Provide pedicure services

N4 Carry out nail art services

N5 Apply and maintain nail enhancements to create a natural finish

 

 

 

 


Entry Requirements/Qualifications:

With this course a good standard of English is required to complete the assignment to achieve this qualification. Entry criteria for mature students can be discussed at interview.  Ideally all applications require a good standard of education in English, Maths and Science GCSE's A - D or the equivalent, also candidates who have successfully completed a Level 1 Beauty course with a satisfactory reference and skills assessment.

 

Learner from the EU or who have been previous ESOL students will require a good standard of spoken English (Level 1 or above) so they can hold a conversation with our wide client base. A BKSB screening will take place at interview to support a good level of English required for the course.

 

It should be noted that a good standard of physical health is required as Beauty is often physically demanding, and this type of work may affect certain skin conditions.

This course is designed for over 19’s.  A short interview is required by every learners before starting this course.


Learning Style:

All methods are selected to meet the levels and ability of each individual student

Students will need to submit portfolio demonstrating practical evidence and essential knowledge via assignments and online test


Equipment Requirements:

You will be required to wear beauty salon wear, which consists of an Inline turquoise  tunic and trousers, black  cardigan and salon shoes. Order forms are given to you via the beauty staff. You will also be required to purchase a manicure, pedicure kit, nail extension and nail art kit, you can if you wish purchases a  subject text book for recommend reading.

There is a charge of £30.00 for consumables to be paid at the first session on the course.

You will be given an order form at your welcome induction by the beauty team. However the Information & Advice Team will also have copies of these forms it is compulsory that you and order before the start of the course.You will be expected to provide models for your practical assessments that will be expected to contribute to the cost of consumables


Assessment:

Assessments are on a continuous programme of study. To re enforce underpinning knowledge students are encouraged to participate in student led activities within the class, complete work packs and case studies to produce a portfolio of evidence compiled by the student. All methods are selected to meet the levels and ability of each individual student.

You are required to revise for your online exams in your own time, and practice your practical skills at home. (Approximately 10 hours of study per week)

You will be expected to provide models for your practical assessments that will be expected to contribute to the cost of consumables; however you will also be expected to work on external clients to develop a real working experience. 


Progression:

You may progress onto working in beauty salons, cruise ships or health clubs. Alternatively you can continue your training by gaining entry onto the Level 3 Massage, Level 3 General Beauty Therapy, Level 3 Nail (technician) services or Level 3 Make up courses.


Additional Information:

The nail industry is a professional career; therefore we have certain rules and regulations within the Beauty salons that you must adhere to. You will not be accepted in the beauty salon without the following

  • Full beauty kit
  • A clean and well pressed uniform
  • Clean shoes from 
  • Day make up
  • Clean tidy hairstyle  Long  hair should be tied back
  • No jewellery except a wedding band
  • Short nails which are unvarnished
  • No nail extensions
  • Facial piercings are to be removed

Enrolment Instructions:

An interview will be essential before enrolment onto this course. Late enrolments will not be accepted later than 3 weeks of the start date.
