About the course:
A half-day course on identification of common defects in GRP mouldings and how to assess the possible causes; future prevention and repair options. This course is from SEMTA Marine Engineering Level 3 Unit No 151.6: Identifying defects in marine components and assemblies.
Course Content:
- Gel coat wrinkling
- Gel coat blisters including osmosis
- Thin gel coat
- Flaking and peeling gel coat
- Star cracking and crazing
- Delamination
- Distortion
- Under and over cure, and testing using a barcol hardener tester
- Shrinkage and exotherm
- Poor rigidity or stiffness
- Corner voids
- Colour leaching
Entry Requirements/Qualifications:
The course is suited for students who need to carry out inspection checks on mouldings to ensure quality standards are maintained, and detail repair procedures for identified defects.
